When you think of Diane von Furstenberg, you think of wrap dresses. She is the queen of wrap dresses after all. But you won’t find a wrap dress in her Fall 2009 collection. No, this around Diane went for the exotic tribal look. The collection is all about dark, rich colors and textures. There were a variety of different textures employed – corduroy, velvet, cashmere, beading. Also present, were plenty of tribal and animal prints. Take for instance, the velvet leopard dress or the leopard leggings. Diane took the tribal nomad theme further by adding on pom pom hats. Furthermore, the tribal theme lent itself to inspire the models makeup. The inspiration behind the makeup? Sudanese women and Lawrence of Arabia. Don’t they look exotic? Another major styling element were layers. There were layers upon layers and layers. Layers of colors, layers of textures, and layers of print.
Two pieces from the collection jumped out at me. The blue sequin shift dress and the liquid gold metallic jersey dress. They’re both quite fabulous.
