Just as Kermit the frog once lamented, “it’s not easy being green,” it’s also not easy being pretty – or more specifically, it’s not cheap. And in case, you didn’t know so already, Newsweek has confirm just how expensive it is to keep us looking good. According to Newsweek, “by the time your 10-year old is 50, she’ll have spent nearly $300,000 on just her hair and face…during her lifetime, she’ll spend $449,127.” All, I have to say is wow! It’s insane, isn’t it? You know, I always knew I was spending a lot on beauty products and services (I just realized that last month I spent almost $900 on cosmetics alone!), but I never gave much thought to how much I was spending. It’s actually sad, since I’m not exactly employed right at the moment.
This Newsweek article has given me a new idea for a project. I will start keeping track of all my spending – which I should be doing so anyways. But now, I’m even more curious on exactly how much I’m spending and where. So for a year (and hopefully, this will stick for the rest of my life), I will keep diligent record of all my spending on beauty products and services.
The Jimmy Choo Glenys Sandals are all over Hollywood right now. They are total on trend right now, with cutout booties being all the range. It’s in every fashionista closet or at the very least, on her wish list. In fact, Nicky Hilton was wearing this very sandal the other day. But alas, I don’t have a Hollywood’s actress or an heiress bank account – at least not yet . So I can only lust for the $1,036 shoes from afar.
Well, the fashion Gods must be smiling down on me, because I have just come across Jimmy Choo Glenys Sandals’s long lost twin. The Go Jane Strappy Patent Zipper Decor Heels is practically near identical to the Jimmy Choos, but without the hefty price tag. The Go Jane heels retails for $19.70 – that’s a savings of $1,016.30! Think of all the other goodies you can get with all the dough you save.
The NARS Summer 2009 Collection is all about shimmery bronze, peach colored lips, and deep, dramatic eyes. ”The look for the summer 2009 collection is sophisticated, but colorful,” said Francois Nars, founder and creative director of NARS. The collection will be available in May.
I’m really loving the peach-hued lips. I can’t wait to go try on the shade. I’m excited about the lipgloss. And the nail polish should be interesting – although I don’t like splurging on nail polishes. As for the eyeshadow, I love the color, but I don’t know how wearable it is for me. Blue eyeshadow is something, I can’t really pull off, but on some people it looks great. I have to see the color in person, though, before I can actually dismiss it – I mean I might actually love the color and can’t live without it. I can’t wait to drop by NARS to check out this collection.

Topshop has finally arrived across the pond! And it’s about bloody time!
The first stateside Topshop officially opened its doors yesterday in NYC. And in honor of the store’s opening, Topshop is offering free shipping all week long. I wonder when they’ll open one in L.A. or Orange County – I’m counting the days….
You can expect a shoe line from Vera Wang soon, but don’t hold your breath for a handbag collection. The designer has put her handbag plans on hold due to the dire economic times. ”I didn’t want to launch a bag line in this economy,” said Wang.
Cloris Leachman appears in a PETA ad, dressed in nothing more than red cabbage with a lettuce garnish running down the middle. And yes, the dress is entirely edible.
