Doesn’t it seem like more and more young women are concerned about aging? I mean there are people in their twenties getting Botox and fillers – heck there are even teens doing it. I’ll admit that when I was on my teens I was somewhat concern about aging more than my friends were. I didn’t do anything drastic – I just wore sunblock because I was afraid of getting wrinkles. But I wasn’t religious about it – to be honest, I forgot to wear sunblock more times than not, but I did wear it more than my peers did. Now that I’m in my twenties, I’m still concern with aging more than most of my friends, not to the point of getting fillers, but I make sure to wear sunblock and I do use some anti-aging products. Sometimes I do wonder if the products are really doing anything for me at this age, but I tell myself that it’s for preventative measures and that I’ll thank myself one day. I must be doing something right, considering the fact that a lot of people think I’m a sophomore in high school – however, I think my Asian genes do factor in a lot.
Anyways my obsession with slowing down the aging process is why I find Mitch McCabe’s documentary, Youth Knows No Pain, so intriguing. The film explores our society’s relationship to aging. She interviews cosmetic surgeons, Botox babes, all the while giving her own smart introspective views. It is also interesting to note that McCabe is the daughter of a plastic surgeon. It looks like a smart, funny, and intriguing film. Youth Knows No Pains premieres tonight on HBO at 9 pm – so don’t forget to set your DVR.
