Alicia Silverstone, who to me will always be Cher Horowitz, is known for her environmental and animal welfare activism as well as being a proponent of veganism. So it comes as no surprise that she now slated to launch a an eco-friendly line of makeup brushes and bags for EcoTools this December. ”I only wanted to do something that hadn’t been done before. This is a conscious product line that is good for the planet,” Alicia told WWD. The bags will be made from natural hemp and recycled linings. The bags will also feature lavender, thyme, rose, and chrysanthemum designs on them. The line will be sold in drugstores and will be priced from $9 – $20.
Now, while I do applaud anything that is eco-friendly, I have to question whether the packaging is necessary. Wouldn’t an eco line want to decrease unnecessary packing, as the one that comes with the five-piece brush set? Regardless of whether the packing is recycled material or not, isn’t the goal here is to decrease consumption?
