The First Lady of the United States wowed at the state dinner honoring Chinese President Hu Jintao. Michelle Obama looked glamourous in red petal print gown from the Alexander McQueen Resort 2011 collection. The gown was a gorgeous statement piece. The dramatic hue also paid homage to the Chinese culture where red signifies auspiciousness. The First Lady added to the drama of the dress with a chic updo and one-of-a-kind Kimberly McDonald earrings.
OMG! Angelina Jolie isn’t wearing black! Angelina Jolie isn’t wearing a neutral color! She’s actually wearing a jewel tone! She looked amazing in the emerald Atelier Versace gown. Very Old Hollywood. The open back gown was covered with Swarovski crystals. She looks stunning. She should really wear jewel tones more often.
Olivia Wilde was breathtaking in a sparkly Marchesa gown. The sequin tulle dress was befitting of the red carpet. And even though I feel like I’ve seen Olivia in this princessy silhouette before, I’m still digging the look. I like that the gown was chocolate instead of black. I like that she kept her hair natural – it was a nice juxtaposition to such a dramatic dress. However, I wasn’t a fan of the shoes. I like the Christian Louboutin ‘Bridget’s Back’ gold ankle boots, I just don’t like it with the dress. The shoes kinda ruined the look. Overall, though, I love the look (minus the shoes, that is). I would love to have that chocolate brown gown with gold embroidered sequins hanging in my closet. Would someone at Marchesa please send me one?
When creating her Golden Globe look, Olivia Wilde and makeup artist Spencer Barnes took inspiration from French girls. “Olivia’s look was inspired by images she collected of what she refers to as ‘the French girl.’ I wanted her skin to be fresh and clean with eyes that extended outward. Touches of rose gold and sheer pink-veiled lips completed her youthful coquette-ish look,” said Spencer.

noneMany lovely ladies graced the red carpet of the 2011 Golden Globe Awards last night. A couple major trends emerged among the fantastic show of couture. The major trend of the night was definitely nudes. Stars and starlets alike donned nude color gowns. There were also actresses who were pretty in pinks, ranging from pale to bright bubblegum pinks. Ladies were ravishing in red. The jewel tone trend continued with emerald hue gowns. Blue was favored by both actresses and actors (Jon Hamm and Jeremy Renner). Other ladies went with classic black. And of course, an award show red carpet wouldn’t be an award show red carpet without sparkly dresses.
